Joaquín Rodrigo: “Concierto de Aranjuez”

It’s been a warm day in Ispra… which is also perfect time for this masterpice of the Valencian composer Joaquín Rodrigo (Sagunto, 1901) that evokes summer and warmth. His famous concerto for guitar and orchestra, “Concierto de Aranjuez”, takes us to a warm and evocative atmosphere that recalls sunny and peaceful summer days. The second movement of the concerto, known as “Adagio”, is particularly well-known and loved for its beauty and serenity. Rodrigo composed this movement as an elegy to the gardens of the Royal Palace of Aranjuez, 50km southern to Madrid, a stunning example of Baroque architecture and picturesque gardens made for Spanish royalty vacation.
