The Refrescos: “Aquí no hay playa”

Ferragosto has arrived to Ispra! We have our lake to take a “tuffo”, but we want to bring you to Spain, where half-country (at least!) its physically or mentally at the seaside now, for sure! 🏖️ This week song, “Aquí no hay playa” (“There’s no beach here”) embraces humorously Madrid’s lack of shoreline. The song jokes about the large amount of facilities and power Madrid has while highlighting that, when August comes, everything becomes useless because, “vaya vaya”, the Spanish capital has no beach at all!

This song is known to every Spaniard and bring us right from the 80s to the Spanish summer vibe! The band behind the hit is Los Refrescos, a Madrid-based musical group known for their playful and irreverent approach to music. They became a prominent figure in Spain’s “Movida Madrileña”, a cultural and artistic movement that emerged in Madrid during that era. The band’s name itself, which translates to “The Refreshments,” captures their carefree and lighthearted spirit.
